Yoga
Yoga in the Sacred Valley, Peru
I began yoga to maintain a mindful movement practice and to rehabilitate some chronic injuries that happened while training in martial arts, from overuse and repetitive strain in my profession, and ballistic weightlifting with kettlebells. Those injuries have been a blessing in disguise, bringing me to this path now. My past athletic endeavours have greatly influenced my expression of yoga. My one hour daily personal practice begins at 4:30am with asana (yoga postures or poses) followed by pranayama (yogic breathing techniques) and meditation. I have maintained a steady personal practice for over a decade now.I have been a teacher in various capacities for most of my adult life. I have taught Karate-Do and self defense courses, mentored apprentices through my construction career, and now teach plumbing and pipe trades pre-employment courses for First Nations students. Over the years as my yoga practice progressed, I began to wonder how I could have an experience that would deepen my knowledge of this profound science and allow me to share some of what I had learned with others.Guided by intuition I decided to pursue and successfully completed my first YTT 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification in Moyobamba, Peru in 2024. I am currently teaching a public yoga class on Wednesday nights at Shapes Fitness Centre on Pembina Highway and can accommodate private classes or consultations upon request.
